Diodes Incorporated (Diodes) (Nasdaq: DIOD) has received an Excellence Award from the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) for significantly reducing carbon emissions at its Hsinchu semiconductor manufacturing facility in Taiwan. The site achieved an impressive 38% reduction in carbon emissions intensity through its investment in a perfluorocarbon (PFC) greenhouse gas treatment system and solar energy array.
The accolade results from the NSTC’s 2023 Science Park Carbon Reduction Competition, which was introduced to encourage action towards reaching Taiwan’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. In addition to encouraging businesses to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote energy-saving and carbon reduction, the NSTC aims to assist companies in learning from each other through their carbon reduction excellence evaluation mechanism.

The system uses a plasma flame containing high levels of ultraviolet light, which accelerates chemical reactions and reduces greenhouse gas emissions in the manufacturing process by approximately 99%. Simultaneously, the Hsinchu facility continues to invest in solar energy, with plans to achieve approximately 8% contracted capacity in self-generated solar power capacity by the end of 2023.
Additionally, Diodes’ Hsinchu facility obtained the highest level 200-point verification for the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) Code of Conduct 7.0 Platinum VAP in June 2023. This verification signifies the company's commitment to high standards and to helping to ensure that partners are treated ethically throughout all stages of the supply chain.
